DIABETES IS A SILENT EPIDEMIC

STEALING THOUSANDS OF LIVES,
YOUNG AND OLD, ACROSS THE UNITED STATES

  • The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) projects that, by 2026, 1 in 9 adults will be living with diabetes, with a LARGE PORTION unaware of their condition.
  • Many Floridians suffer from diabetes and pre-diabetes, over 2.1 million diagnosed with an additional 5.8 million at risk.
  • Screening allows for early detection of prediabetes, providing an opportunity to for intervention to prevent or delay the progression toward Type 2 diabetes.

OUR MISSION

To save lives by arming our community with education on the seriousness of diabetes, empowering them to get tested and get healthier. We want to reach people utilizing television, radio, social media, and interactive events, empowering them to react.

TYPE 1 DIABETES

  • There were an estimated 9.50 million people living with type 1 diabetes in 2025, with 1.85 million of them being under the age of 20.

TYPE 2 DIABETES

  • Type 2 diabetes is expected to be the main driver of a projected rise in diagnoses from 5.9% in 2021 to 9.5% in 2050, impacting more than 1.27 billion individuals.

According to the American Diabetes Association, Florida has the second-highest number of people with prediabetes in the United States, nearly six million people.

Early diagnosis and management are vital to prevent or reverse the progression of diabetes and reduce the risk of serious complications.

Diabetes is estimated to be responsible for 3.4 million deaths and at least $1 trillion in healthcare costs annually across the globe.

Detection Before an Acute Medical Event

This November, 2025, during Diabetes Awareness Month, Community Care will host two totally free community, offering diabetes screening for anyone 10 years and older. There will also be free blood pressure screenings, nutritionists, counseling opportunities and free food, giveaways and fun for the kids – all in partnership with AdventHealth Centra Care.
